Kabiru Abdullahi, a longtime political ally of Rabiu Kwankwaso and supporter of the Kwankwasiyya movement, has left the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) and joined the All Progressives Congress (APC) ahead of Nigeria’s 2027 general election.

Abdullahi announced his resignation in a letter addressed to the NDC chairman of Kofar Ruwa Ward in Dala Local Government Area of Kano State.
Explaining his decision, he cited what he described as years of unfulfilled promises within the party. He said his 29-year association with Kwankwaso had not delivered the political recognition or benefits he expected.

“I have been with Kwankwaso for 29 years but have only benefited from failed promises. I will go to where I will be respected more,” Abdullahi said.
He subsequently declared his support for President Bola Tinubu’s bid for another term under the APC ahead of the 2027 presidential election.

The defection marks a notable shift for Abdullahi, who has been a committed supporter of Kwankwaso and the Kwankwasiyya political movement for decades.

His move comes as Nigeria’s political parties and influential figures begin positioning themselves ahead of the 2027 elections, with defections and realignments expected to shape the country’s political landscape.Abdullahi had previously defended Kwankwaso during political controversies in Kano State before announcing his decision to leave the NDC.
