The Kano State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has affirmed Muhammad Sani Abacha as its governorship candidate ahead of the 2027 general election.

The development followed the voluntary withdrawal of the party’s previously elected candidate, Muhammad Bello Dalhatu. According to the Kano PDP chairman, Dr Bello Gambo Bichi, the replacement process was conducted in accordance with the party’s constitution and applicable electoral regulations.Speaking at an expanded state executive committee meeting in Kano on Wednesday, September 16, Bichi explained that a replacement primary became necessary after Dalhatu withdrew from the He said the party subsequently conducted a replacement primary, where Abacha was formally declared the winner by the electoral panel chaired by Dr Abba Abdullahi.

The PDP chairman said Abacha met the requirements for nomination and that the exercise was conducted in line with the party’s guidelines and electoral regulations. Representatives of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) were also said to have witnessed the process.

The party also announced changes to its deputy governorship ticket as part of efforts to resolve its internal disagreements. Bichi said the deputy governorship slot was conceded to the Turaki faction, with former factional PDP chairman and ex-Commissioner for Land and Agriculture, Alhaji Yusuf Ado Kibiya, named as the new deputy governorship candidate.Bichi said the reconciliation process had resolved the factional disputes within the Kano PDP, declaring that the party was now united and stronger ahead of the election.
The party also replaced some of its National Assembly and state assembly candidates as part of the reconciliation arrangements.

The Kano PDP leadership said the changes were aimed at strengthening unity within the party and improving its organisation ahead of the 2027 polls. Bichi expressed confidence that the party would win the next general election in the state.
