The Abia State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has categorically dismissed reports suggesting it is planning to enter into a political alliance with any other party ahead of Nigeria’s 2027 general elections, declaring that it remains fully committed to contesting every elective position in the state under its own platform.
The party described the reports of an impending coalition as false and without basis, insisting that at no time had it initiated or concluded discussions with any political party regarding an alliance for the next general election.
In a statement issued by the party’s leadership, the Abia PDP said its primary focus is on rebuilding and strengthening its structures across the 17 local government areas of the state. According to the party, the ongoing reorganisation is aimed at positioning it for a strong outing in the 2027 elections.
The party maintained that it has the political capacity, grassroots support and organisational structure required to compete independently without depending on mergers or coalition arrangements. It stressed that its preparations are centred on presenting candidates for every elective office, including the governorship, National Assembly, Abia State House of Assembly and other positions that will be contested during the election cycle.
The PDP further urged members, supporters and the general public to disregard rumours of a coalition, saying such reports were designed to create unnecessary confusion and misrepresent the party’s position. It emphasised that any official decision concerning the party would only be communicated through its recognised leadership and authorised channels.
According to the party, its attention remains fixed on reconnecting with the people of Abia through issue-based politics and strengthening its internal democratic processes. It expressed confidence that unity among members and sustained grassroots mobilisation would improve its chances in the 2027 polls.
The statement comes at a time when political consultations and alliance discussions are gaining momentum across Nigeria as parties begin positioning themselves for the next general elections. While coalition talks have dominated political conversations in several states, the Abia PDP said it has chosen a different path by reaffirming its resolve to contest all available elective positions independently.
The party also called on its members to remain focused, united and committed to the rebuilding process, assuring them that the leadership is working to reposition the PDP as a formidable political force in Abia State.
Political observers say the declaration is an early indication of the party’s strategy for the 2027 elections and signals its determination to regain political relevance in the state. With campaigns expected to gather pace in the coming months, the Abia PDP’s decision to rule out coalition politics underscores its confidence in testing its strength at the polls without partnering with rival political parties.
As Nigeria gradually moves towards another election season, the Abia PDP’s position is expected to shape political conversations in the state, especially as parties continue to realign and prepare for what is anticipated to be another fiercely contested general election.
