The member representing Esan North East/Esan South East Federal Constituency and Edo Central Coordinator for the APC Governorship Campaign, Prince Henry Okojie, narrowly escaped assassination attempt at his residence in the early hours of Friday.
This development was confirmed in a statement posted on Facebook by Okojie’s media aide, Michael Ihaza.
The attack, carried out by armed thugs posing as police officers, took place in Uromi, the administrative headquarters of Esan North East Local Government.
According to the statement, the assailants arrived in a Lexus GX 470 with a Rivers State registration number, claiming to have an appointment with the lawmaker, who is also the husband of popular Nollywood actress, Mercy Johnson.
However, the assassination attempt was thwarted by Okojie’s security personnel, resulting in a chaotic confrontation.
Two of the attackers managed to flee the scene, while their driver and another accomplice were apprehended and are currently being interrogated by the Nigeria Police Force’s Area Command in Uromi.
The statement reads partly, “The attack carried out by armed thugs with a Lexus GX 470 carrying a Rivers State vehicle registration number – PHC 253 FF, was unsuccessful owing to the intervention of security personnel attached to the Lawmaker.
“The armed thugs who disguised as police officers along with two others, invaded the residence of Hon. Okojie, claimed to be on appointment and proceeded to the sitting room.
“Following the intervention of the security personnel attached to the lawmaker, two of the armed thugs fled leaving behind the driver and another who are currently being interrogated by officers from the Area Command of the Nigeria Police Force, Uromi.”
