Senator Ede Dafinone, representing Delta Central Senatorial District, has expressed grief over the death of Mr. Adeda Ekwevugbe, a Deputy Director in the Delta State Ministry of Basic and Secondary Education, calling for a thorough and transparent investigation into the circumstances surrounding his death.
Ekwevugbe reportedly died following an incident at his workplace, a development that has sparked concerns among his family, colleagues and members of the public.
In a statement, Dafinone described the death as “profoundly shocking and deeply troubling,” stressing that Ekwevugbe, whom he described as a dedicated public servant and Urhobo son, had gone to work in service to the state.
The senator commiserated with the Ekwevugbe family of Ughelli Kingdom, saying he shared in their grief and stood with them during the difficult period.
Dafinone acknowledged the steps taken by the Delta State Government under Governor Sheriff Oborevwori, including the constitution of an Administrative Panel of Inquiry to establish the circumstances surrounding the death.
He also noted the ongoing investigation by the Delta State Police Command, urging the relevant authorities to conduct the process thoroughly, transparently and impartially.
The senator appealed to the people of Ughelli Kingdom, the Urhobo nation, civil servants and other concerned Deltans to remain calm and allow the investigations to proceed without interference.
According to him, while the family and the public have a legitimate demand for answers, their grief should not undermine the process required to establish the truth.
Dafinone, however, insisted that the investigation must be allowed to follow the evidence, warning against any attempt to cover up the circumstances surrounding Ekwevugbe’s death.
“There must be no cover-up, no sacred cows and no attempt to shield anyone found culpable,” he said, adding that anyone found responsible should face the full weight of the law.
He stressed that justice for Ekwevugbe “must not only be done; it must be seen to be done.”
Dafinone further said he would continue to monitor developments surrounding the incident and work with the state government, relevant authorities and security agencies to ensure that the truth is established and justice served.
He prayed for the repose of Ekwevugbe’s soul and strength for his family, friends, colleagues and the people of Ughelli Kingdom to bear the loss.
