Following the postponement of the governorship election by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), Prince Ned Nwoko, the Delta North senator-elect, has intensified his campaign to rally support for his party; the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) governorship candidate in Delta state, Rt.Hon.Sheriff Oborevwori, and all the PDP House of Assembly candidates across the senatorial district.
In continuation of his campaign rallies, Nwoko, alongside members of his campaign team, on Wednesday, 15 March, visited the palace of His Royal Majesty, Paul Solomon Ifenezluche, the traditional ruler of Amai Kingdom, in Ukwuani local government area.
Nwoko and his entourage were warmly received by the king and the traditional cabinet members, as well as swarms of supporters who keenly awaited their arrival.
Speaking, Nwoko appreciated the people’s support in the senatorial election and promised to reciprocate the love once he assumes office proper.
He assured the people quality representation in Abuja. He, however, added, “Beyond working in Abuja as a senator, there are also projects that I can get the state governor to do.
“This is why I am here to plead with you, on behalf of all PDP faithfuls, including Governor Okowa, and Sheriff himself, to ask that what you did for me in the senatorial election, you should please do it again on Saturday, 18 March, in the governorship and House of Assembly elections.”
Explaining reasons for his plea, Nwoko said, “The federal level is already compromised. All parties involved have gone to court.
“The court determines who becomes the next President of Nigeria. Whoever becomes the next President of Nigeria through the dictates of the court must have support of most of the state governors.
“Tinubu, having been announced the president-elect, already gave him an edge. The only way to stop him from continuing the deplorable APC administration is by ensuring that he does not have control of more states, especially a state like Delta.
“Hence, we must put aside our differences and personal interests to save Delta.
“All opposition parties must come together to stop APC from taking over Delta state to avoid a repetition of what happened in the presidential election.
“The quest is to stop Tinubu and his loyalists from taking over Delta state.”
In response, Obi Ifenezluche, lauded Nwoko’s selfless service to humanity and assured him of the kingdom’s support. Noting that, the legal consultant who delved into politics out of love to serve humanity, deserves all the support the Kingdom can offer.
Obi Ifenezluche said, “Recall that even in our conventional neutrality as regards the issues of politics, we the Anioma traditional rulers endorsed your candidature. It is the first of its kind. Ordinarily, we are neutral. But, unanimously, we endorsed you because we believe in you and trust you capability in getting things done.
“You’re not self-centered. You have won your election, but, here you are still campaigning for other team members.
“Together with my people, we thank you for your selfless service. Politics is not your area of discipline, but, out of your love to serve humanity, you accepted the call.
“The least we can do is to give you all the support that you deserve. It will be unfair in our part to let you be a minority in the federal and also a minority in your state.
“What we all envisioned for you was a cohesive government team that would make your work as a senator easier. Nevertheless, we will do our best to ensure that you have a PDP Governor.
“The only way to correct the wrong at the federal level is to ensure that Sheriff Oborevwori wins Delta governorship election.”
One of the supporters, simply identified as Rueben, cheered Nwoko for taking his time to come and appreciate the people.
“Your coming has succeeded in boosting our morale. It has given us that extra energy and courage we needed to push ahead,” Rueben said.
