A young governorship aspirant under the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party PDP, Mr. Sunday Solomon Oruarefe, has made his intention known to run for the 2023 governorship of Delta state.
Uruarefe, a professional accountant, on Saturday, told journalists at Dennis Osadebe University, Asaba, that he has studied all the adpirants and he has what it takes to beat all of them hands down and clinch both the PDP ticket and the governorship in 2023.
He said his mission, if given opportunity by the PDP and the people of Delta state, is to build on the infrastructural, economic, health and education development agenda of the incumbent Governor Ifeanyi Okowa.
He said: “We have seen what the governor has done and is doing. He has done excellently well. But we want to improve on his programmes. We will improve on the infrastructure, economy, and we will create enabling environment for investors to thrive.
“We are also going to give youths opportunity to hold positions and use their skills to improve lives of other Deltans around them.”
Thr aspirant said he used the campus community to make his declaration because he knows that the university community has a lot of youth potentials that could grow the future of the state. He said the youths could give very bright and fresh ideas to move government to a higher level
He told journalists that the era of old men being in government and tsking decisions for people is over, insisting that civil societies, youth bodies, women and other people are yearning for young and enterprising individuals who have good and beautiful ideas to change society for the good of all.
He said: “The age of Methuselah has nothing to do with the wisdom of Solomon. Methuselah was an old man but Solomon came with wisdom to govern the people of Israel and there was development, peace and prosperity. So, the youth is not a barrier. Infact, youths are the major catalyst of development.
“It is the youths we need this time. They have the vigour and strength and intellectual capacity. I’m an accountant by profession. We are more capable, articulate to do more than what those old men can do.”
Uruarefe, an Urhobo man, said he has done a lot of underground work and series of consultations with Deltans before coming out to make public his decision. He said: “If you look at the social media, you will see that the civil society, youths and women are yearning for me. If you look at those contesting they have been there for years, they have not made any impact in the lives of Deltans.
“I’,m just coming in, people are seeing life in us. They want to give the youths the chance to lead. If you put all of us contesting together, both PDP and APC, I will beat them hands down. I want you to do online survey of all the aspirants, you will see what I’m saying.”
