Senator Ede Dafinone, representing Delta Central Senatorial District, has urged Nigerians to remain steadfast in their commitment to democracy, expressing optimism that the country will overcome its current challenges and emerge stronger through unity, perseverance, and collective effort.

In a Democracy Day message released on Friday, the lawmaker congratulated the people of Delta Central and Nigerians nationwide as the country marked another anniversary of democratic governance, describing June 12 as a symbol of the sacrifices and resilience of Nigerians in the struggle for democracy, justice, and national development.

According to Dafinone, the significance of June 12 lies in its enduring reminder of the power of the people’s will and the need to preserve democratic ideals for future generations.

“June 12 remains a historic symbol of the sacrifices, resilience, and collective determination of Nigerians in the pursuit of democratic governance, justice, and national development,” he stated.

The senator noted that despite economic and social challenges confronting the nation, Nigeria’s democratic journey since 1999 has recorded steady progress and growth.

He emphasized that democracy remains the best system of government because it promotes accountability, citizen participation, and peaceful political transitions.

While acknowledging the hardships facing many Nigerians, Dafinone called for continued faith in democratic institutions and processes, stressing that temporary setbacks should not weaken the nation’s commitment to democratic governance.

He also appealed to citizens to support the administration of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu as it continues to implement economic reforms aimed at repositioning the country for sustainable growth and prosperity.

According to him, although some of the government’s policies require patience and sacrifice, the long-term benefits are becoming increasingly evident.

“I urge all Nigerians to continue to support and pray for the administration of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu as it implements critical reforms aimed at repositioning our country for greater prosperity, economic stability, and sustainable development,” he said.

The lawmaker further encouraged Nigerians, particularly residents of Delta Central, to actively participate in the democratic process through voting and civic engagement.

He highlighted the importance of the ongoing Continuous Voter Registration (CVR) exercise and urged eligible citizens who have yet to register to obtain their Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs).

Dafinone stressed that every vote remains a powerful tool for shaping leadership and ensuring good governance.

Reflecting on his tenure in the Senate, the senator expressed gratitude to the people of Delta Central for their continued trust and support. He also commended their backing of the Delta State Government under Governor Sheriff Oborevwori and the All Progressives Congress (APC).

Looking ahead to the 2027 general elections, Dafinone called on the people of Delta Central to remain politically engaged and strategically positioned within the national political landscape.

He emphasized the need for unity among party members and supporters, urging them to remain committed to the APC as a platform for advancing the interests of the region and contributing to national development.

“As we look ahead to the 2027 elections, Delta Central must remain strategically positioned at the centre of national politics and development. We cannot afford to be spectators in the affairs that shape our future,” he said.

The senator wished Nigerians a happy Democracy Day and reaffirming his commitment to representing the interests of Delta Central in the National Assembly.
