Youths of the Niger Delta region on Thursday disagreed with Senate president, Godswill Akpabio, Asari Dokubo, NDDC managing director, Samuel Ogbuku and others as protesting youths defied their warning and trooped to the streets.
In the gathering that was fully sponsored by the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC), Akpabio, Asari Dokubo and Ogbuku, IYC president and other Niger Delta leaders had said youths of the region had agreed not to protest.
It was at the meeting Akpabio made the controversial statement that while youths are protesting “we are eating”, a statement that has pitched the youths against him.
Asari had said no youth should carry protest to his place, noting that such youths collect but in PortHarcourt where the event held, protest burst through the streets as unhappy youths said hunger and hardship were getting into their nerves.
In Delta, the protest held in Asaba and Warri, major cities in the richest oil state in the region. Bayelsa was not left alone as reports say protesting youths had thrown the state into darkness following vandalisation of electric power facilities.
In Edo state, it was not left out as youths also came out en-masse to protest the hardship in the land.
NDDC and Akpabio must have spent millions for the live event on Arise TV and also settled some of the persons who attended the event. It had ended as a charade eith no fruit as the protest it was meant to block went on unhindered.
