The vice-presidential candidate of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, has received a strong vote of confidence from prominent Igbo leaders following a solidarity visit by the Igbo Elders Consultative Forum at his Abuja residence.

The high-powered delegation was led by Dr. S. N. Okeke, Chairman of the Ohanaeze Council of Elders for the 19 States and the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), alongside former Governor of Enugu State, Okwesilieze Nwodo.

During the visit, the elders commended the growing political partnership between Kwankwaso and the presidential candidate of the NDC, Mr. Peter Obi, describing the alliance as a symbol of national unity and inclusive leadership.

The delegation pledged unwavering support for the Obi/Kwankwaso ticket, assuring the party of massive electoral backing across the South-East and the wider Southern region ahead of the forthcoming general elections.

Speaking after the meeting, Kwankwaso expressed gratitude to the delegation for the visit and the opportunity to discuss issues concerning the state of the nation.

“I was deeply honoured to host the Igbo Elders Consultative Forum at my residence in Abuja,” he said. “The discussions reflected our shared commitment to national progress, unity, and democratic development.”

Kwankwaso also reflected on the historic political relationship between Northern and South-Eastern leaders, noting that the alliance between himself and Peter Obi continues to strengthen national cohesion.

He described his relationship with Obi as “excellent and productive,” while reaffirming his commitment to the “OK Movement” and the Nigeria Democratic Congress.

“We remain resolute and determined to secure victory for the party in the upcoming elections,” he stated.

Political observers say the endorsement by influential Igbo elders could further consolidate support for the NDC ticket in the South-East, where Peter Obi continues to enjoy significant grassroots appeal.

The meeting is seen as part of broader political consultations and coalition-building efforts ahead of what is expected to be a highly contested electoral season in Nigeria.
