The Federal Government has declared Friday, June 12, a public holiday to mark this year’s Democracy Day celebration.
The announcement was made by the Minister of Interior, Dr. Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, on behalf of the Federal Government.
A statement issued by the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Interior, Dr. Magdalene Ajani, highlighted the significance of June 12 in Nigeria’s democratic journey.
According to the statement, Democracy Day serves as a tribute to the courage, resilience, and sacrifices of Nigerians whose efforts paved the way for democratic governance in the country.
The government noted that the legacy of these heroes continues to shape the nation’s values and guide its responsibilities.
Dr. Tunji-Ojo reaffirmed the Federal Government’s commitment to upholding democratic principles, including the rule of law, transparency, accountability, and inclusive governance.
He also urged Nigerians to continue supporting and strengthening the country’s democratic institutions.
