The Federal Government has declared Wednesday, May 27, and Thursday, May 28, 2026, as public holidays in celebration of Eid ul Adha.
The announcement was made on Monday in Abuja by the Minister of Interior, Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, through a statement issued by the ministry’s Permanent Secretary, Magdalene Ajani.
According to the statement, the declaration underscores the government’s recognition of the religious significance of Eid ul Adha to millions of Muslims in Nigeria and across the world.
Tunji-Ojo extended the Federal Government’s greetings to Muslim faithful at home and in the diaspora, describing the festival as a period that reflects the virtues of sacrifice, obedience to God, and compassion toward others.
He urged Nigerians to use the occasion to pray for the nation and reflect on the collective pursuit of peace, security, and national prosperity.
The minister also wished Muslims a peaceful, joyous, and spiritually fulfilling celebration, emphasizing the importance of unity, brotherhood, and shared humanity.
