BY JULIET UGAH

For some days now the story about a girl identified as Chidimma Adaora Ojukwu, a 21 year old 300Level student of Mass Communication department in Lagos State University who allegedly murdered the CEO of Super TV, Mr Usifo Ataga, on June 15 has been trending.

As expected, a lot of people have their different views on the issue. While some blame the man for having extra marital affair with a girl young enough to be his daughter, others blame the girl for indulging in such ungodly act with a man old enough to be her father. Some even channelled the blame to poor governance and bad parenting.

An ex police officer who pleaded not to be mentioned blamed the man, Usifo Ataga. Having dealt with similar cases like this, the ex police officer said that the man is wrong for putting himself in such position that led to his death.

He said if he had treated the girl right she would not have had the nerve to hurt him. He added that even if the girl had heard people conspiring against the man that she would rather report the conspirators instead of joining them, but that’s only if the man had treated her well.

Contrary to this ex officer’s opinion is that of Mr. Ken Chukwudum, a wealthy business consultant in Delta State. Mr Ken blamed the 21 year old girl and also gave his reasons. In his opinion, the young lady is at fault. He gave his reasons.

He said: “In Nigeria most people assume that sex is simple intercourse and occasional cunnilingus. The fact that this young lady was very angry about “what the man did to her” means the man was probably doing deviant sex on her and the fact that she was so upset that she could not tolerate what she has gone through in the first bout supports my assumption.

“Now, she had a choice of raising an alarm for people to come to her aid but instead she chose to have an altercation. You cannot be invited by a “big man” to an Airbnb for a sexual tryst for which you’re being paid for and behave as you would to an ordinary boyfriend.

“She knew why she was there. If it was a more serious relationship he would have taken her home. If he was comfortable with her and wanted to be serious with her, he would have invited her to his house in Banana Island since his wife lives in Abuja. She alluded to this indirectly by her complains that he  refused to help her.

“She wanted something serious, but he wanted a play thing. In desperation to avoid having a sexual act similar to the first, she detested and not wanting to leave there without compensation, she tried to avoid him and when she was cornered, without thinking it through she grabbed the first weapon she could lay her hands on and stabbed the man repeatedly.

“Her taking his debit card and withdrawing funds even though she knew he was dead shows that she was determined to get monetary reward at all cost. So, in my opinion the girl is guilty of premeditated murder. She went there with a financial goal in mind, she tried her luck in getting something more tangible and when that failed she stole his money after his death”

A girl identified as Marvellous Moses, a student of Delta State Polytechnic, Mass Communication department also aired her view on this issue. Marvellous blamed both the man and the girl.

According to Marvellous, it is so appalling for a man of Mr Ataga’s age who is married to be in a sexual relationship with a 21 year old girl. Again, she blamed Chidimma for being in such relationship with a married man.

However, Marvellous said she also blamed the government, saying if not for bad governance Chidimma’s parents would have earned enough to cater for her financial needs and she wouldn’t have befriended a married man who she hoped to gain financial help from.
