Delta State Governor, Sheriff Oborevwori, has donated a brand-new Toyota Hiace bus to the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Delta State Council, in a move aimed at strengthening the bond between the government and the media.
The bus was officially presented to the union on Tuesday in Asaba by the governor’s Chief Press Secretary, Sir Festus Ahon. He described the gesture as a reflection of the cordial relationship that has existed between the Oborevwori administration and journalists in the state.
“This bus donation is for the use of the NUJ, Delta State Council,” Ahon said. “This gesture is as a result of the good relationship we have had over the years.”
Ahon added that Governor Oborevwori hopes the vehicle would foster even greater cooperation between the government and the media, ultimately contributing to the development of Delta State. He congratulated the union leadership and prayed that the bus would serve its purpose effectively.
Receiving the bus, Chairman of the Delta NUJ Council, Churchill Oyowe, expressed profound gratitude to the governor for fulfilling his promise to the union.
“What the governor has done today is a demonstration of the fact that he promises and he delivers,” Oyowe said. “He made his promise, and he has delivered.”
Oyowe noted that the donation was not just any vehicle but a modern, brand-new bus that would significantly enhance the union’s activities. He described it as a testament to the governor’s commitment to the welfare of journalists in the state.
“We do not take it for granted, and we believe it will further cement our cordial working relationship,” he added.
The NUJ chairman also commended the Oborevwori administration for its development strides across the state and expressed confidence that more achievements would be recorded before the end of its tenure. He reaffirmed the union’s commitment to maintaining a strong partnership with the government.
Oyowe further appreciated the Secretary to the State Government, the Commissioners for Works (Rural Roads) and Information, as well as the Chief Press Secretary, for their roles in making the donation a reality.
