In a chilling operation that has sent shockwaves through the community, the Oyo State Police Command has apprehended two men for the alleged unlawful possession of what is believed to be a human skull. The arrest, which took place in the Ijio area of Iwajowa Local Government, is the result of a coordinated intelligence-led raid carried out jointly with the Oyo State Security Network Agency, popularly known as Amotekun.
According to a statement released on Thursday by the command’s spokesperson, DSP Ayanlade Olayinka, the breakthrough came after police received credible intelligence about a suspect linked to the grisly item. Acting swiftly, the Commissioner of Police, Abimbola Olugbenga, ordered a combined tactical operation that led to the capture of the primary suspect, Shittu Isah, from the Kajola Area of Ijio.
Upon his arrest, Isah allegedly made a startling confession admitting that the skull was exhumed from a Muslim burial ground in the area. He also revealed he did not carry out the act alone, which led operatives to a second suspect, Tunde Ajibade, who is now in custody and aiding the police in their ongoing investigation.
The suspected human skull has since been secured in police custody and forwarded for rigorous forensic examination to confirm its origin and uncover the full circumstances surrounding its removal.
The police also noted that investigators are diligently working to unravel the motive behind the crime and determine if there are any other members of the network still at large.
Reaffirming the command’s dedication to public safety, DSP Olayinka called on residents to remain vigilant and continue providing timely, credible information to security agencies. He also reminded the public that emergency tips can be relayed through the command’s toll-free response line, as authorities vow to bring all culprits to justice.
