Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde has firmly declared he will not interfere in his successor’s administration after leaving office in 2027, urging voters to prioritise competence over religion or ethnicity in the next elections.
Speaking at a Hijrah 1448 luncheon in Ibadan on Monday, the governor said leadership should be about service, not control. “After eight years of serving the people, I will ensure a smooth transition and give my successor the freedom to govern,” Makinde stated.
He stressed that voters must scrutinise candidates based on character, competence and commitment to public service, rather than primordial considerations.
The governor also pledged to focus on consolidating achievements and delivering impactful projects for Oyo State residents until the end of his tenure.
