The governorship candidate of the Social Democratic Party in Delta state, Olorogun Kenneth Gbagi on Monday had an interactive session with Catholic and non Catholic women from across the 25 local government areas of the state.
The women came out en masse to the interactive session to show their support for Kenneth Gbagi and his deputy governorship candidate, Chief (Mrs) Ishioma Rosemary Oshilim.
The Udje Udu dance troop graced the event with their agile dance routines.
Present in the gathering were women leaders, Dr Mrs. Anne Ogbe, Lady Mrs. Victory Oghenecheme, Lady Mrs. Glory Okedo, Dr. Mrs. Omo Irabor, Lady Benedicta Mejurum among others.
The women present were representatives of the Christian Women Association of Delta state.
While speaking in the event, Gbagi said: “Since I began open campaign and consultation, this is the happiest day of my life. I am a proud Catholic and this is the first time in history that a Catholic is running for governor in the state.
“God did not make mistake in making us Deltans. So, anything that is going on in Delta concerns you and nobody should tell you otherwise. There is danger in Delta and God is not going to come down and do it for us, we must take a stand then expect God’s help”.
Gbagi reiterated that before politics spoilt Delta state, there were over 200 limited liability companies but now over the last seven years, there has been an increase in poverty, hunger and suffering.
“My mothers, this is not the time for us to play. If you mothers take this time to play, we’re playing with our children, our grand children and even our lives.
“What I know is business, and I believe that Delta state is the richest state in Nigeria, even in Africa.
Before crude oil, Delta was the cradle of palm oil exportation, rubber plantation, Mobil in Oghara, salt factory in Oghara, flower mill, Limca and Micheline.
Delta state had Asaba textile mill, bottle factory to name a few. God blessed us seriously.
All the big companies were here in Delta, and unemployment wasn’t an issue”.
He insisted that Deltans have come to an era where ignorance has allowed the people to let the state get to where it is today.
He called on the church not to make the mistake of sitting on their hands but to wake up and support the movement that will liberate the state.
Olorogun Kenneth Gbagi promised to do all he could to make Delta state great again using the establishment of various industries to remove the scourge of poverty and insecurity by giving employment to the youths and removing them from the street.
The slogan “No women, no politics” was the highlight of the session.
