Panic swept through the Ibafon tank farm cluster in Apapa, Lagos, on Friday morning as a fierce fire broke out at the Bono Tank Farm, located inside the Best Energy Tank Farm complex. The blaze sent residents and workers scrambling for safety while emergency teams rushed to the scene.
Details remain sketchy, but Vanguard learned that the fire services of the Nigerian Ports Authority (NPA) and the Nigerian Maritime Administration and Safety Agency (NIMASA) were promptly deployed to stop the flames from spreading to nearby facilities.
Efforts to reach Bono Tank Farm and Best Energy management proved futile, as calls and texts went unanswered. However, Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service Director, Margaret Adeseye, confirmed the incident, stating that no casualties had been recorded so far.
According to reports, the fire started in the early hours, triggered by a deafening explosion-like sound that jolted the area, sparking mass evacuation and fear among locals.
