As the country inches closer to the 2023 general elections, Prince Ned Nwoko, the Delta North People’s Democratic Party (PDP) senatorial candidate, who has successfully rounded off wards and local government areas campaign weeks ago, has again, visited Oshimili South LGA, to reassure the people of responsive governance with PDP.
The leading senatorial candidate, met with the people of Akwaofor in Asaba, Oshimili South local government area, on Sunday, 12 February, 2023, briefly after a closed door meeting with Governor Ifeanyi Okowa and other PDP candidates, at the Government House, Asaba.
As expected, the people chorused support for Nwoko’s candidacy. They were vocal with their desire to see Nwoko occupy the office of the senate.
In response, Nwoko appreciated their voluntary support, and also, admonished them on the need to have a cohesive government team. He revealed that, mismatching votes, especially against the PDP presidential candidate will affect his ability to perform effectively as a senator.
“A lot needs to be done in Anioma. During the Ward-to-Ward campaign, I visited a lot of communities. I saw the devastation caused by flood here in Oshimili South and Ndokwa.
“Putting a stop to this continuous flooding, would be a major project only the federal government can do, because, the budget would cost above what state government can handle.
“This is why I need Atiku and Okowa at the presidency. As a senator, it will be easier for me to attract the federal government presence if the president is in my team.
“Accessing Labour Party or APC president, and having them approve my constituency projects would be very difficult for me, because, we’re not in the same team.
“For me to be an effective senator, I need my complete team. It means PDP must occupy the five political offices.” Nwoko said.
Reassuring the people of responsive governance, he said, ” I am not going to the senate to compromise my deal. I am not interested in personal gains. I am already a fulfilled man in life. What I need is, political power to make life easier for the people.
“The pattern of governance I hope to introduce when elected would be totally different from what you have experienced. Everybody must be carried along.
“After the elections, I will call a meeting of all the representatives. We would sit, discuss and document the various challenges faced in each local government area.
“It would be documented in two files. One for the office of the President and one for the office of the Governor. Projects that need to be done by the federal government would be sent to the office of the presidency, while the ones that would be done by the state government would be sent to the office of the governor.” Nwoko revealed.
Earlier, Elder Moses Iduh, Delta North PDP chairman, had cheered Nwoko’s humility. He noted that, the senatorial candidate, though without prior notification, still found it worthy to meet with the people.
“This is exactly what the people need; a humble and accessible representative”, Elder Iduh said.
