The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has selected former Rivers State Governor and former Minister of Transportation, Rotimi Amaechi, as the running mate to former Vice President Atiku Abubakar for the 2027 presidential election.
The party said the decision followed extensive consultations and was influenced by Amaechi’s strong showing in the ADC presidential primaries, where he emerged as runner-up, as well as his long record of public service.
In a statement issued on Monday, ADC National Publicity Secretary, Mallam Bolaji Abdullahi, described the Atiku-Amaechi ticket as a “unity and rescue ticket” designed to address Nigeria’s pressing challenges and provide effective leadership.
According to Abdullahi, the partnership brings together two experienced political leaders with the capacity to steer the country toward greater prosperity, security, and inclusive development.
He stated that the alliance represents more than a political arrangement, noting that both leaders possess extensive governance experience, national appeal, and a proven track record in public service.
The ADC highlighted Amaechi’s political journey, which includes serving as Speaker of the Rivers State House of Assembly, two-term Governor of Rivers State, and Minister of Transportation.
The party said his experience across both the legislative and executive arms of government would be a valuable asset to a future ADC administration.
The statement further noted that Amaechi’s influence in the South-South region and across Southern Nigeria would strengthen the ticket’s nationwide appeal and electoral prospects.
The party said the combination of Atiku and Amaechi reflects a truly national ticket capable of bridging regional, generational, and political divides.
It added that their collective expertise in governance, economic management, public administration, and nation-building offers Nigerians a credible alternative for restoring confidence in government and accelerating national development.
Expressing optimism about the partnership, the ADC said it believes the ticket will energize its growing coalition, inspire hope among citizens, and provide the leadership needed to build a stronger, safer, and more prosperous Nigeria.
The party also called on its members, coalition partners, civil society organizations, youth and women groups, and other Nigerians to rally behind its campaign as preparations for the 2027 general election gather momentum.
