JUST IN: Appeal court dismisses Kennedy Kanma’s appeal, reaffirms Ned Nwoko’s senatorial victory

Lagos Division of the Court of Appeal has upheld Prince Ned Munir Nwoko’s victory as the Senator for Delta North senatorial district in the February 2023 election. This decision reaffirms the judgment of the National Assembly Elections Petition Tribunal in Asaba, which had previously declared Prince Ned Nwoko of the People’s Democratic Party as the rightful winner, dismissing Kennedy Onochie Kanma’s appeal from the Labour Party.

The court determined that the appellant, Kennedy Onochie Kanma, failed to provide sufficient evidence to overturn the Tribunal’s judgment in his favour. Both Kennedy Onochie Kanma and Peter Onyeluka Nwaoboshi of the All Progressives Congress had separately contested Prince Ned Nwoko’s victory at the National Assembly Elections Petition Tribunal in Asaba. However, Nwoko emerged victorious as both petitions were dismissed for lacking merit.

The appellate court today subsequently ruled that Prince Ned Munir Nwoko, having won the majority of lawful votes cast in the poll, is the winner of the Delta North senatorial election. Following the Appeal Court’s verdict, Prince Ned Munir Nwoko will continue to represent the Delta North senatorial district in the upper chamber.
