Minister of state for labour and productivity, Festus Keyamo, has warned those charged with the selection of the 774,000 for the special public works that the project is for all Nigerians irrespective of where they reside.
His submission implies that an indigene of Ebonyi living in Delta is qualified to be part of the programme in Delta state if he so wishes to participate. The same goes to indigenes of Ogun state living in Zamfara are also qualified to be part of the programme.
Keyamo said the programme is for all Nigerians irrespective of your political affiliation, your state of origin and state of residence. This has put paid to clamour for indigenisation of the public works programme.
However, it may be impossible for this directive of keyamo to be implemented by the selection committee as politicians may hijack the programme in the states and flood it with their people.
In a tweet, Keyamo said: “We understand some states’ selection committees are considering only indigenes for the 774,000 jobs. That’s unacceptable. Anyone who is resident in any LGA in the country, irrespective of tribe, is qualified. It’s one country in which we all live. The NDE coordinators should note.”
