JUST IN: Just Few Months to 2027 Elections, Six Commissioners Lose Jobs

Nasarawa State Governor, Abdullahi Sule, has relieved six commissioners of their appointments as part of measures to reposition his administration and improve service delivery.

Governor Sule announced the decision on Wednesday during the State Executive Council meeting in Lafia, explaining that the changes were necessary to strengthen the government ahead of upcoming political activities and elections.

The governor had earlier dismissed reports that his administration was planning a complete dissolution of the State Executive Council.

“Because of what we have been working on recently, I know that there had been a lot of tension, a lot of wrong information out there that we intend to dissolve the council today. We are not dissolving the council today – let me make that categorically clear,” Sule said.

He added that the administration would instead carry out “a couple of reshuffling here and there” to strengthen its preparations for the tasks ahead and the forthcoming elections.

Briefing journalists after the meeting, the Secretary to the State Government, Dr. Labaran Shuaibu Magaji, SAN, identified the affected commissioners as Dr. Tanko Ibrahim, Information, Culture and Tourism; Muazu Adamu Gosho, Works, Housing and Transport; David Moyi, Lands; Usman Baba, Security and Sundry Matters; Barrister Hauwa Samuel Jugbo, Women Affairs and Humanitarian Services; and Gabriel Agbashi, Science and Technology.

Magaji said the changes took immediate effect, directing the affected commissioners to hand over their respective ministries to the Permanent Secretaries.

He said the exercise was intended to inject fresh energy into the administration and provide opportunities for others to contribute to governance.

According to him, the outgoing commissioners may be considered for other responsibilities in the future, while new appointments to fill the vacant positions would be announced in due course.
