NAFDAC Goes Ballistic! Nationwide Raid Smashes Sachet Alcohol, Seizes Illegal Booze in Markets & Motor Parks

The National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) has launched a full-scale, no-holds-barred crackdown on sachet alcohol, storming markets, bars, motor parks, and retail outlets across all six geopolitical zones.

This massive enforcement action, which began yesterday, marks the final hammer blow on the federal government’s ban on alcoholic beverages packaged in sachets or PET bottles under 200ml. The raid follows the recent shutdown of factories that defied regulatory orders.

NAFDAC’s enforcement squads are out in full force, scouring supermarkets, wholesale distributors, and street corners to identify, seize, and destroy the contraband products. The agency has fired a stark warning: anyone caught producing, importing, distributing, transporting, stocking, or selling these banned drinks faces immediate prosecution with no exceptions.

In a fiery statement, Director-General Prof. Christianah Adeyeye ordered all manufacturers, importers, and retailers to surrender their remaining stock immediately. She made it crystal clear that continued possession will trigger seizure, heavy regulatory sanctions, and potential jail time.

This aggressive operation is not a one-time blitz but a sustained war against underage drinking and substance abuse, targeting the cheap, easy-to-access alcohol that has endangered Nigerian youths. NAFDAC insists the move protects children and vulnerable groups while promoting responsible adult consumption.

The agency stresses that compliant manufacturers have nothing to fear. However, for those peddling the banned “pocket-sized” poison, the party is over. NAFDAC is now appealing to the public to blow the whistle on offenders, urging citizens to report suspicious activities to the nearest NAFDAC office and avoid buying or consuming the illegal products.
