“Pay Up or We Shut Down” Justice Ministry Lawyers Threaten Indefinite Strike
Law officers in Kwara State have fired a seven-day strike notice at Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq, demanding unpaid allowances and salary harmonisation with magistrates or else they walk out indefinitely.
The Law Officers Association of Nigeria, Kwara chapter, in a July 20 letter signed by acting chairman Keyinde Ayorinde and secretary Tolulope Oniyide, said the government has ignored repeated pleas for:
· 50% furniture allowance balance for 2020
· Robe allowances for 2024, 2025, and 2026
· Salary harmonisation with state judiciary magistrates (per the 2005 approval)
The notice runs from July 20 to July 26. If demands aren’t met, members will proceed on indefinite strike a move they warn could cripple justice administration and government functions.
“Several representations to His Excellency and the Head of Service have yielded nothing,” the association stated.
