Delta State Commissioner for Environment, Mr. Jamani Tommy Ejiro has enjoined Deltans and residents in the state to ensure environmental sustainability in the state.
Represented by the Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Environment, Dr. (Mrs) Minnie Oseji, the commissioner, urged for proper waste disposal in the state.
The commissioner stated this during the monitoring of the monthly sanitation exercise at Obiaruku, Ukwuani Local Government Area of the state.
Though, there was no restriction of movement during the exercise owing to the Basic Education Certificate Examination, BECE across the state, the officials of the ministry joined the those from the Local Government council in the area to go round some residential and market areas, Amai Road, Utagaba-Uno Road Junction to sensitise the people and business owners to come out and clean up their surroundings, just as fliers on environmental sanitation were distributed while an announcer conveyed the directives using a public address system.
The representative of the commissioner expressed dissatisfaction over the low level of compliance during the exercise and tasked the Head of the Department of Environment in the council, Mrs Rose Eyefia, to take proactive steps to sensitise the people and enforce environmental laws for swift compliance by residents and business owners in the locality.
She urged the Local Government Authorities to support the Environment Department to ensure total adherence to environmental best practices in the locality.
