The Movement for the Survival of Ijaw Ethnic Nationality in the Niger Delta (MOSIEND) extends its heartfelt commendation to His Excellency, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, and the esteemed members of the National Assembly for the swift passage and signing into law of the South-South Development Commission (SSDC).
In a statement issued and signed by the National Secretary, Amb. Winston C. Amain, MOSIEND described the passage of the SSDC as a landmark achievement, highlighting the present administration’s commitment to addressing the developmental challenges faced by the South-South region.
Amb. Winston C. Amain stated that the establishment of the SSDC is a bold step toward fostering sustainable development, economic empowerment, and social justice for the Ijaw people and other ethnic nationalities in the South-South geo-political region.
“For far too long, the South-South region has faced significant challenges, including infrastructure deficits, environmental degradation, and socio-economic disparities,” Amb. Amain noted. “The SSDC will serve as a dedicated platform to tackle these issues, ensuring our communities receive the necessary attention and resources for meaningful progress. It will also amplify the voices of the people, ensuring that policies impacting their lives are shaped with their interests in mind.”
MOSIEND particularly commended the National Assembly for prioritizing this initiative, demonstrating a deep understanding of the region’s unique needs and aspirations. The rapid passage of the bill reaffirms their commitment to inclusive governance and equitable development across Nigeria.
“As we celebrate this milestone, we urge the federal government to ensure that the SSDC is adequately funded and empowered to fulfill its mandate effectively,” Amb. Amain emphasized. “It is critical that all those appointed to the commission ensure funds are used judiciously, avoiding any mismanagement.
“They should take a page from the current management of the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC) in executing impactful projects and programs that complement government efforts and bring development closer to the people.”
“The success of this commission will depend on transparent governance, accountability, and a collective effort from all stakeholders.”
In conclusion, MOSIEND sincerely appreciates President Bola Tinubu and the National Assembly for their unwavering commitment to the progress of the South-South region. The organization looks forward to collaborating with the administration to ensure that the SSDC achieves its objectives and contributes to the overall development and prosperity of Nigeria.
