Nine persons were on Monday, November 8, burnt to death and 11 others were injured in a road accident in Niger State.
According to reports, the accident which involved two trailers, a Sharon commercial vehicle and Volkswagen Golf car occurred at about 10 am along Kutigi-Mokwa Road of the state.
One of the trailers were loaded with planks and the other loaded with varieties of goods were heading for Minna, Niger State capital before the road accident occurred.
The Sharon vehicle which was conveying travellers, basically traders and heading for the week by week market day in Kudu town was said to have slammed into one of the trailers and before it burst into flames right away.
Vehicles that were also at its back rammed into the burning vehicles.
Speaking about the sad incident, an eyewitness told Nigerian Tribune that the motor boy of the trailer carrying planks was injured badly and was rushed to General Hospital in Kutigi.
According to the eyewitness, seven of the victims burnt beyond recognition.
When firefighters were contacted, they responded but at some point ran out of water.
Confirming the sad incident, the Sector Commander of the FRSC in the state, Mr Musa Mohammed, revealed that the four vehicles involved got burnt.
He said;
“Two Daf tankers, a Sharon bus and a Volkswagen Golf car were involved. Twenty people were involved in the mishap; nine were burnt to death, while 11 others sustained injuries.”
While blaming the accident on fatigue on the part of some of the drivers and loss of control of their vehicles, Mohammed advised motorists to exercise caution and adhere strictly to speed limits to avoid crashes.
