No More ‘School Na Scam’ – FG Drops ₦1 Trillion to Break Poverty Barrier in Tertiary Education

The Federal Government has declared that financial hardship will no longer rob any qualified Nigerian of a university degree, polytechnic diploma, or college education certificate.

In a sweeping assurance, Education Minister Dr. Tunji Alausa confirmed that President Bola Tinubu’s administration has dismantled the monetary walls that once kept bright but indigent students out of higher institutions. With over ₦1 trillion in targeted investments and student-focused reforms, the government is betting big on the next generation.

“Not having money, or coming from an indigent family, will no longer stop you from achieving your life’s opportunities. Education is no longer a barrier,” Alausa declared during a meeting with the National Committee for the Advancement of Occupational Therapy, Audiology and Speech and Language Therapy Education.

The minister didn’t just talk—he detailed the numbers. Over the past two years, the government has pumped:

· ₦250 billion into new student hostels,
· Over ₦150 billion into rehabilitating classrooms and workshops,
· More than ₦130 billion into revamping medical schools,
· ₦52 billion for cutting-edge equipment in 18 medical schools,
· Nearly ₦30 billion for 11 state-of-the-art medical simulation labs, and
· Almost ₦110 billion into engineering workshops and modern tools for universities and polytechnics.

Describing the investment as “mind-boggling” and among the largest in Nigeria’s educational history, Alausa stressed that the goal is to produce graduates ready to drive innovation, industrialization, and long-term economic growth.

“We thank President Tinubu for believing in the youth of this country—giving them every opportunity to excel for themselves, their communities, and the global world,” he added. The message is clear: poverty is no longer an academic death sentence.
