Academic activities at Adekunle Ajasin University, Akungba-Akoko, have ground to a complete halt as lecturers embark on an indefinite strike over unpaid May and June 2026 salaries.
The Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU), AAUA chapter, declared the total shutdown in a Saturday statement by Chairman Dr Bolu Oshodi.
“The withdrawal of services is total, comprehensive and indefinite until all outstanding salaries are paid,” the statement read, noting the action begins at 11:59 pm Friday, July 10.
The union had previously issued warnings on April 28 and June 18 but with no response from the Ondo State Government, lecturers finally pulled the plug.
Adding fuel to the fire: ASUU’s National Visitation Team will storm the institution on Monday, July 13, to address unresolved issues from the 2025 Federal Government-ASUU agreement.
This latest strike adds to growing tensions in state-owned tertiary institutions, with lecturers vowing no resumption until every kobo is paid.
Students? Stranded. Lectures? Frozen. The ball is now in the government’s court.
