Edo State Governor Monday Okpebholo has described Saturday’s local government elections as a resounding success with voters turning out in encouraging numbers to choose their grassroots leaders.
The governor cast his ballot at Ward 2, Udomi Primary School, Esan Central LGA, arriving at 10:24 a.m. and queuing patiently like every other voter before exercising his franchise at exactly 10:40 a.m.
“This election is very peaceful and it’s going smoothly based on feedback from the field,” Okpebholo told journalists after voting.
“The turnout is very high. This is a demonstration of grassroots democracy. It shows that our people are interested in choosing those who will administer the affairs of their local governments.”
PEACE PREVAILS
Accredited election observers also confirmed that voting was peaceful and orderly across the state with electoral officials and security personnel visibly present at polling units.
The governor spent several minutes engaging with stakeholders before addressing the press, urging residents to maintain the peace throughout the process and await official results from the Edo State Independent Electoral Commission (EDSIEC) .
“By the grace of God, a winner will emerge at the end of today’s election,” he added.
THE BOTTOM LINE: High turnout, zero drama, and democracy thriving at the grassroots. Edo voters have spoken now all eyes are on EDSIEC for the final count.
