Former Anambra State governor and 2027 presidential candidate Peter Obi has criticised President Bola Tinubu over an alleged attempt to block the release of records concerning his past in the United States by the Federal Bureau of Investigation, FBI.
Obi described the reported development as “profoundly embarrassing,” saying Nigerians deserve clear, credible and verifiable explanations, particularly on questions relating to educational credentials. He argued that leadership requires transparency, accountability and the willingness to confront questions about one’s past.
Meanwhile, National Chairman of the People’s Redemption Party, Hakeem Baba-Ahmed, questioned the simultaneous absence of President Tinubu and Vice President Kashim Shettima from Nigeria. Speaking at an opposition political leaders’ summit in Abuja, Baba-Ahmed alleged that Tinubu’s emergency overseas trip was connected to the possible release of documents concerning him by the FBI.
Baba-Ahmed also asked who was in charge of the country while both the President and Vice President were away. The comments come amid growing political activity ahead of Nigeria’s 2027 presidential election.
