Community leaders reject monarch’s second-term backing, insist Iree remains APC stronghold
Leaders of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Iree, Boripe Local Government Area, have pushed back against the Aree of Iree’s recent endorsement of Governor Ademola Adeleke for a second term, insisting the monarch spoke only for himself not for the community.
The royal father, Oba Muritala Oyelakin, had thrown his weight behind the governor during a visit to the Government House, flanked by some community figures. But APC stakeholders quickly moved to disown the gesture, describing it as a solo move lacking broader input.
In a jointly signed statement, prominent APC chieftains including Boripe North LCDA Chairman Hammed Omoniyi, Oluomo of Ireeland Barrister Yinka Adeojo, former Commissioner Prince Adebayo Adeleke (BANIK), and ex-Boripe APC Chairman Debo Ajeigbe made it clear that the endorsement was never discussed with key community groups like the Iree Progressive Association (IPA).
The party leaders stressed that the APC remains deeply rooted in the community, pointing to infrastructure projects executed under past APC administrations roads, schools, healthcare facilities, solar lighting, transformers, and empowerment schemes as proof of the party’s tangible impact.
They also reminded the public of an ongoing legal tussle over the traditional stool, cautioning that the matter is still before the courts.
The APC leaders called on traditional rulers to remain neutral custodians of culture, not political cheerleaders. They urged residents to judge leaders not by endorsements, but by delivery, arguing that the current administration has done little for Iree compared to its APC predecessors.
