President Bola Tinubu has ordered a sweeping 30-day investigation into an alleged fake presidential agency after authorities uncovered what the Presidency described as a scheme involving forged government documents, false presidential appointments and the unlawful use of official government identity.
The Presidency said the so-called Presidential Foreign Intervention Promotion Council (PFIPC) was never established by the Federal Government and has no legal or executive approval, despite allegedly presenting itself as an official presidential body.
According to presidential spokesman Bayo Onanuga, one Adeniyi Adeyemi Matthew allegedly claimed to be the Director-General of the council and falsely presented himself as a presidential appointee.
President Tinubu directed the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) to conclude a full investigation within 30 days. The anti-corruption agency will examine allegations of forged appointment letters, fake government documents, attempts to obtain diplomatic support and visa facilitation, and the opening of multiple bank accounts in the names of purported government agencies.
The investigation will also trace the source and movement of any funds linked to the alleged operation and determine whether any public officials, financial institutions, intermediaries or private individuals played a role in helping the scheme gain an appearance of legitimacy.
The President further ordered investigators to identify weaknesses in government systems that may have been exploited and recommend urgent reforms to prevent similar incidents in the future.
All federal ministries, departments and agencies have been directed to cooperate fully with the ICPC by providing all relevant records needed for the investigation.
Reaffirming his administration’s commitment to accountability, President Tinubu said the integrity of the Presidency and Nigeria’s public institutions must be protected from impersonation, forgery and abuse of official authority, warning that anyone found culpable will face the full weight of the law.
