The All Progressives Congress (APC) governorship candidate in Osun State, Bola Oyebamiji, has expressed confidence in his chances of winning the ongoing governorship election.
Oyebamiji spoke shortly after casting his vote at Ward 9, Polling Unit 011, in Ikire, Irewole Local Government Area of the state.
The APC candidate commended the large turnout of voters in Ikire, saying the participation demonstrated that residents were not intimidated from exercising their civic rights.
According to him, the presence of officials of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), voters and security operatives at the polling unit showed that the electoral process was underway.
He said the situation was generally going on well across the state while commending voters who turned out to participate in the election.
Oyebamiji said: “INEC officials are here, the voters are here, security operatives are here. I want to commend the large turnout of voters in Ikire. It shows that people are not intimidated, and generally, things are going on fine across the state.”
The APC candidate also addressed concerns over possible violence in Ikire, urging the police and other security agencies to remain proactive throughout the exercise.
He called on security personnel to protect voters and maintain peace to enable residents to freely participate in the election.
“I want to admonish the police and other security operatives to be proactive to ensure security for our people and all the voters, and I believe the election would be credible,” he said.
Oyebamiji was also asked about the reported arrest of a politician during the election.
In response, he said he expected the police to perform their responsibilities professionally.
“I want to be sure that the police would do their job. I am confident that I’d win this election at the end of the day,” he said.
The APC candidate’s comments came as voters continued to cast their ballots across Osun State, with security agencies and electoral officials present at polling locations.
