The Oyo State House of Assembly has officially approved Governor Seyi Makinde’s request to embark on his annual vacation, paving the way for Deputy Governor Adebayo Lawal to step in as acting governor.
The leave is scheduled to run from August 10 to September 11, 2026, with Governor Makinde expected to return to his official duties on September 14, 2026.
The approval came during Thursday’s plenary session after the governor’s formal letter—submitted in line with Section 190 of Nigeria’s 1999 Constitution was read aloud by Deputy Speaker Muhammed Fadeyi, who presided in the absence of Speaker Adebo Ogundoyin.
Following a brief deliberation, the lawmakers gave their unanimous endorsement, voicing full confidence in Deputy Governor Lawal’s capacity to steer the state’s affairs seamlessly throughout the governor’s absence.
