The presidential candidate of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), Alhaji Atiku Abubakar, was met by an unprecedented crowd who thronged the streets of Asaba, as he stormed Delta state for his presidential campaign, on Tuesday, 24 January, 2023.
The presidential candidate, was received by his running mate, Governor Ifeanyi Okowa, the state governor, the PDP governorship candidate, Rt.Hon.Sheriff Oborevwori, the Delta North PDP senatorial candidate, Prince Ned Nwoko, and a host of other party faithfuls.
Speaking to the mammoth crowd of supporters at Stephen Keshi stadium, Asaba, the former vice president of Nigeria said that, he is not in Delta state to campaign, but rather, to show gratitude for the supports he had enjoyed from the state since 1999 till date, noting that Delta state has never failed to deliver him, and in appreciation, he has decided to have a Deltan as his running mate in the forthcoming presidential election.
In Atiku’s words, “In all my political career, from 1999 till date, Delta state has never failed me. I promise I shall not betray your trust. For your love and support over the years, I have decided to take one of you as my running mate. I expect that you give Okowa the massive support that he needs to show the nation that you are committed to your own future.”
Speaking about his five points agenda, the PDP presidential candidate said that, as far as the responsibility of federal government is concerned, that he is promising quality education, security, restructuring, unity and flourishing economy for the people.
“I assure you, there shall be no more ASUU strike. And about the issue of resource control and restructuring, it is our intention to devoid more power and resources to respective states, so they can deal with the people’s problem directly and instantly, instead of waiting on the federal government.
“The issue of unity is also very important to me. APC has disunited Nigeria in all respect. It is our commitment to restore unity in this country, by ensuring that every region has a sense of belonging in the federal government.” Atiku said.
On the issues of security and economy, he said, “Security is very paramount. You cannot develop a nation’s economy without security. I assure maximum security. When there is security, the economy will flourish.
“When PDP was in power, we recorded the biggest economic growth in Africa. I promise, we will achieve that again.”
The former vice president urged the people to believe in PDP, assuring that the party is with the people in all senses.
In an exclusive interview with Nwoko, whom had earlier predicted Atiku’s victory, the Delta North leading senatorial candidate reaffirmed his statement. He said that, he is certain that Atiku will emerge the next president of Nigeria, with a sweeping victory in the entire nation. Nwoko stated that Atiku’s plans for Nigeria, are in line with his plans for the people of Anioma. Hence, urged the people to give their 100 percent votes for PDP.
