Apostle Johnson Suleman, founder and president of Omega Fire Ministries, has vowed to pay one million Naira to anyone with information on how to help the Nigerian police trace the young man who raped and murdered the 22-year-old student of University of Benin at Redeemed Christian Church of God in Benin City Edo state.
In a tweet he released on his verified twitter handle, the fiery preacher said: “I would give N1million to anyone willing to provide reliable information to the apprehension of those behind the rape/murder of Vera Uwaila who was murdered in the church. Contact +2348119313785.”
Emerald News reports that the 22-year-old student of the university was said to be reading her books at the church following the lockdown as a result of the coronavirus pandemic which held the world, not only Nigeria at the jugular. All sectors of the national economy including education were all on lockdown.
According to the reports, the body of the late Uwa was discovered in the hall of the church when the security man came in at about 7pm to resume his work. He raised alarm, and the body of the girl in the pool of blood was rushed to the hospital. But seeing she has bled so much, she died at University of Benin Teaching Hospital.
The pastor had earlier condemned the gruesome murder of the girl where he twitted: “I strongly condemn the gruesome killing of Vera Uwaila, a 100 level microbiology student of our great UNIBEN. Dastardly as it is, we are yet to hear of any arrest. May God give her parents fortitude to bear the loss. Justice must be served. She was just 22-years-old.#justiceforuwa.”
He added: “I just spoke with the governor. The death of Vera Uwaila won’t be swept under the carpet. If someone could have the nerve to come kill a girl inside the church, then there would be consequences. If there are mad men, there are psychiatric doctors.”
Reno Omokri, a new media aide to former President Goodluck Jonathan, said the “gesture of offering to pay ₦1,000,000 to anyone who can provide reliable information leading to the apprehension of those behind the rape and murder of Vera Uwaila and encourage @PoliceNG to take a cue from him.”
Amnesty Internarional in Nigeria also lent its voice in the condemnation of the gruesome murder of the 22-year-old student.
The international body wrote: “Amnesty International condemns the rape and brutal murder of Vera Uwaila Omozuwa; a 22-year-old 100-level student of the University of Benin, Edo State. Vera Uwaila was raped and killed inside a Redeemed Christian Church of God in Benin City.”
