Following the recent killing of a young businessman by a happy-trigger policeman in Asaba,Delta Capital, some police officers on stop-and-search duty in Warri, have been captured on camera brutalising and attempting to stab some young men to death over alleged refusal to give a bribe of N100.
It was gathered that the yet-to-be-identified police officers had stopped them to check their vehicle particulars. Then the policemen demanded N100 from the young men but they refused to part with the money, which angered the officers.
They subsequently wrestled one of the young men to the ground and unleashed violence on them.
One of the police officers in a viral video seen by SaharaReporters brought out a knife to stab the young man who was on the ground while another police officer attacked and beat the victim with a baton.
One officer positioned to shoot at the victim as he shouted, “You dey craze? Are you mad? I will kill you here.”
Following the brutality, some of the young men abandoned the car and fled into the nearby bush.
Reacting to the incident, the Force Public Relations Officer, CSP Olumuyiwa Adejobi, said the Delta State Police Command had been directed to fish out all the police officers.
He said if the incident was old, the force headquarters would still be interested in knowing the outcome of the investigation and the action that was taken when it happened.
“Delta command has been asked to fish them out. I hope it’s a new video. And if it’s an old one, we want to know the outcome of the investigation and action taken then.
“It’s quite unfortunate that a trained policeman will be wielding a knife to even threaten a young, harmless man. In the first instance, that knife is not part of police issue or accoutrements, so it’s condemned. Secondly, he was improperly dressed, and lastly, he was so unprofessional, and that is shameful. So we will revisit it,” the Force spokesperson said.
