Vice President issues direct order to ALGON: No more excuses on grassroots malnutrition
Vice President Kashim Shettima has thrown down the gauntlet to Nigeria’s 774 local government chairmen: Make nutrition your frontline battle or face the consequences.
During a Friday meeting with ALGON’s National Executive Committee at the Presidential Villa, Shettima ordered council bosses to transform Local Government Committees on Food and Nutrition into “centres of planning, coordination, implementation, and accountability.”
“National concern must become institutional action. Institutional action must become measurable outcomes,” Shettima declared, stressing that President Tinubu’s nutrition agenda is a governance directive, not a suggestion.
The VP didn’t mince words: “The absence of a coherent nutrition agenda across many LGAs has created a significant gap. That gap weakens implementation where impact matters most.”
ALGON President Engr. Bello Lawal pledged full support, seeking VP’s backing to include nutrition services for pregnant women and children in the NHIS benefit package.
Key Takeaways:
. LG chairmen must drive Nutrition 774 implementation
. ALGON to strengthen local nutrition committees
. Goal: Measurable improvements at community level
