Vice President Kashim Shettima begins two-week break to recharge and reflect on national policy priorities
Vice President Kashim Shettima on Thursday commenced a two-week leave, marking his first official break since assuming office on May 29, 2023. The leave, approved by President Bola Tinubu, allows the nation’s second-in-command time for study, reflection, and intellectual renewal, according to a statement from his media office.
Stanley Nkwocha, Senior Special Assistant to the President on Media and Communications in the Office of the Vice President, described the break as an opportunity for Shettima to review ongoing administration programs, deepen his understanding of emerging national and global policy issues, and prepare for intensified implementation of the Renewed Hope Agenda.
Since taking office, Shettima has maintained a demanding schedule coordinating strategic government initiatives across economic development, food security, humanitarian affairs, digital transformation, job creation, and regional cooperation. As Chairman of the National Economic Council, he convenes the 36 state governors, the Central Bank Governor, and other officials to deliberate on economic policy and citizen welfare.
The Vice President has also represented President Tinubu at major international engagements, including G20 and AU-EU summits last November, particularly when the President remained in Nigeria during security incidents in Niger and Kwara States.
Nkwocha emphasized that Shettima remains “deeply committed to the ideals of loyalty, duty and service” that have defined his role in the administration.
The Vice President is expected to resume official responsibilities on or around August 20, 2026.
