In a major crackdown on child trafficking, the Abia State Police Command has arrested a suspected kingpin, Nnamdi Lazarus, and rescued six kidnapped children.
The 51-year-old suspect, a native of Mbano in Imo State, was nabbed at his hideout in Uratta Aba, following what the police described as “credible and actionable intelligence.”
State Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Maureen Chinaka, confirmed the operation in a statement on Thursday, revealing that Lazarus was caught harboring the victims at his residence.
All six children have since been safely reunited with their families. Police say investigations are actively ongoing to track down other members of the trafficking syndicate, and the suspect will face charges in court as soon as inquiries are concluded.
The command reaffirmed its zero-tolerance stance on criminal activity, vowing that Abia State will remain hostile territory for offenders, and promising sustained intelligence-driven operations to safeguard lives and property.
