Imo Governor Uzodimma declares five-state bloc backing president’s re-election, citing unprecedented development projects
Hope Uzodimma, governor of Imo State and chairman of the South-East Governors’ Forum, has announced that all five governors from the region have resolved to support President Bola Tinubu’s second-term bid.
Speaking Wednesday during a meeting with Imo’s elders council and traditional rulers in Owerri, Uzodimma declared that the region is judging by performance, not political sentiment.
“The South-east has decided. Our people judge governments by performance and not by political sentiments. The evidence is on the ground,” Uzodimma stated.
Why The Shift?
The governor cited Tinubu’s “unprecedented commitment” to the region through the Renewed Hope Agenda, pointing to:
· South East Development Commission Act (signed 2024) with immediate operational funding
· $3 billion Eastern Rail Corridor reconstruction (Port Harcourt to Maiduguri)
· Second Niger Bridge access roads Phase 2A & 2B with seven bridges
· Port Harcourt–Aba rail line rehabilitation now commercially operational
· Increased federal allocations across all five states
· Enhanced security efforts
· Student loan programmes for regional youth

“We, the five governors of the south-east, have reviewed all options and decided that we will work with President Bola Tinubu because we want to be part of the Project Nigeria,” Uzodimma added.
The governors plan a joint courtesy visit to the president soon to “further seal their partnership” with the federal government.
Notable Context
This announcement comes just a day after Abia Governor Alex Otti a chieftain of the opposition Labour Party described Tinubu’s economic reforms as “courageous,” signaling a potential realignment in the region’s political landscape.
