Osun State is facing renewed political tension after the All Progressives Congress (APC) alerted security agencies to an alleged plan by purported Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) local government executives to take over council secretariats across the state.
The APC, in a statement signed by its Director of Media and Information, Kola Olabisi, alleged that the purported PDP chairmen and councillors planned to invade the 30 local government secretariats and the Area Office on Thursday. The party further alleged that political hoodlums had been recruited to support the planned operation.
The APC called on the police, Department of State Services (DSS) and Nigerian Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) to take proactive steps to prevent any disruption of public peace. It also urged the purported PDP council executives to allow the courts to determine the ongoing legal dispute over the local government councils.
The party said the matter remains before the Court of Appeal in Akure, Ondo State, and warned that any attempt to bypass the judicial process would be illegal. The APC also referenced the previous killing of one of its reinstated council chairmen, Honourable Remi Abass of Irewole Local Government Area, saying suspects are currently facing trial at the Federal High Court in Abuja.The Osun State Government and the state chapter of the PDP had not responded to the allegations as of the time of filing the report.
