President Muhammadu Buhari on Tuesday morning, February 16, 2021, nominated a 40-year-old Abdulrasheed Bawa as the substantive chairman for the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).
In a statement by Femi Adesina, special adviser to the president on media and publicity, President Buhari asked the Nigerian senate to confirm Bawa as the new EFCC helmsman. He said he acted based on the power conferred on him by the EFCC Act, 2004.
In the statement, President Buhari listed some good qualities in Bawa which prompted him to appoint him as the new and most qualified person for the office of the EFCC chairman.
The president believes that with his youthful age and experience in the fraud war, he would do great in the anti-graft agency.
Specifically, Buhari said Bawa is a trained EFCC investigator with vast experience in the investigation and prosecution of advanced fee fraud cases, official corruption, bank fraud, money laundering and economic crimes in Nigeria.
The statement said the 40 year-old Bawa has undergone several specialized training in different parts of the world and was the pioneer EFCC cadet officer in 2005.
Bawa holds a B.Sc degree in Economics and Masters in International Affairs and Diplomacy.
So, Nigerians can now see why President Buhari appointed the young man as EFCC chair. The appointment is answer to the prayer of Nigerian youths who have been craving for youths in positions of authority in Nigeria
