On his 63rd birthday, President Bola Tinubu has rolled out the red carpet for the former Ebonyi governor, calling him not just a minister, but “one of my outstanding, hardworking ministers.”

In a statement that reads more like a commendation for valor, Tinubu’s spokesperson, Bayo Onanuga, revealed why the President is so impressed: Umahi is obsessed with building roads that will outlast all of us—durable infrastructure designed to last “about a century.”

The President has also used this moment to fire a new charge at the birthday boy: accelerate. With Nigeria’s economy crying out for activity, Tinubu urged Umahi to push the pedal down on road rehabilitation and delivery, framing it as a direct strategy to boost economic activity and improve the quality of life for Nigerians.
From Ebonyi to the Federal Stage
Umahi’s journey is a political masterclass. From serving as a two-term Governor of Ebonyi State (2015–2023) to representing Ebonyi South in the Senate, he has now found his ultimate calling in the Federal Cabinet—repairing the nation’s arteries.
