Jigawa Governor Umar Namadi stormed into the state secretariat unannounced on Monday—and was met with rows of locked doors and missing senior staff.
By 11am, top government officials were nowhere to be found. In a now-viral video, the governor is seen darting between ministries, encountering only a handful of messengers and security guards while offices sat deserted.
His special assistant, Garba Muhammad, confirmed the inspection in a Tuesday statement, framing it as part of a “comprehensive statewide oversight tour” blending admin checks, condolence visits, and infrastructure reviews.
“The governor monitored staff attendance, punctuality, and workplace productivity,” Muhammad said, adding that the exercise underscores Namadi’s drive for “discipline, accountability, and an efficient public service.”
From the empty secretariat, Namadi headed to Ringim to mourn victims of a deadly boat accident, then toured road projects in Sankara and key sites in Kazaure including hospitals and the Jigawa State Polytechnic for Communication and Information Technology.
