Delta North Labour Party senatorial candidate, Barrister Kennedy Kanma has given quit notice to the ruling All Progressives Congress in Nigeria and the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) in Delta state saying the reign of impunity, insecurity, harsh economy, terrorism, killings and bad governance is enough.
Kanma, who vehemently condemned the hardship in Nigeria occasioned by the lack of human face of the APC federal government, told Labour Party faithful in Umutu, Ukwuani local government area of Delta state that the time has come to send the two parties out of the political space of Nigeria.
According to Kanma, “We do not want the status quo to continue in Nigeria. Let me say this. We are tired of the old parties. It’s time for them to go. Look at insecurity everywhere. With the security situation in the country, nothing can work. There is fear everywhere. People are being killed. The killers do not ask where you come from. We are therefore saying enough is enough. That is what every well -meaning Nigerian is now saying.
“Both contestants and non-contestants, we are all saying enough is enough. We can no longer condone bad governance. Labour Party is assuring all of us of good governance across the country. If there is god governance, everybody will work and see the fruit of their labour. No one wants to work for cows to eat. Labour Party will provide safe environment for every Nigerian. This is our promise and we will stand by it.”
Barrister Kanma also told the party faithful who said they are eager for a better secured and peaceful nation that the party would not allow a situation where students of higher institutions are abandoned for months as a result of strikes due to ineptitude of persons in power.
“This is why we are saying enough is enough. The campaigns have not started but go out and tell people around you that good things are ahead of us and that we do not want the things happening in Nigeria to continue. For this to be possible, in the next election we need 5/5 vote for Labour Party. It is Labour Party all the way, from presidency to the state house of assembly.”
Ward 3 chairman of Labour Party in Ukwuani local government, Mr. Chukwutem Ogude, said the people of the area are ready to vote en-masse for Labour Party, noting “we have been working at the grassroots, we have been inaugurating canvassers in all the wards because Labour Party must win the election. In the day and night we are working. We must change the bad system in Nigeria for our good.”
He revealed that he was called for appointment by the Governor Okowa’s administration in Delta but he turned it down, insisting that he had determined to leave the PDP and work for Labour Party where he sees hope and good future for the people of Nigeria.
He said: “They called me for appointment but I rejected it. They told me my name was on the list for SA but they don’t like my dance. I asked them how is my dance? They said should we still add you or remove you? I told them to remove my name. I told them there is a place I’m going. What I’m saying is this, we want Peter Obi as president and Kennedy Kanma and our Reps members in the National Assembly. We are ready to support the party to win.”
However, he said the candidates for the party at all levels must work closely with people from the grassroots because most votes are from the rural areas. According to him, “If you are ready for the election, go down to the grassroots, we will sit with them and win the election. We must get the old people and the youths into the winning party. We must have Labour Party in every unit, every quarter and every household.”
One of the women who spoke at the meeting, Benedict Chegwe, said the ruling APC and PDP have no commodity to sell. This, according her, implies that the two ruling parties have failed the people of Nigeria and it’s time all Nigerians turn their backs to them and join forces with the Labour Party to rescue the country.
“That is what I have been telling people. It is Labour Party that has commodity to sell not APC or PDP. It is the only party that can create avenue for people to work, cultivate their crops, sell and have food for all Nigerians.” She, however said in the plans and programmes of the party, women should be given consideration.
Other candidates who were present at the meeting were Dr. Gift Okwuolise, House of Reps candidate for Ndokwa federal constituency and Lucky Ikukaiwe, House of Assembly candidate for Ukwuani state constituency who hosted the meeting.
