Governor Ademola Adeleke of Osun State has raised concerns over an alleged threat against leaders and supporters of the Accord Party ahead of Saturday’s governorship election.
Adeleke, speaking at an emergency press briefing on Tuesday, called for an urgent investigation into a viral video allegedly showing Senator Francis Fadahunsi making threatening remarks against Accord members and their families.
The governor described the allegation as a serious security matter that goes beyond political rivalry and urged the Nigeria Police Force and Department of State Services to investigate.
Adeleke also alleged that more than 62 Accord leaders were being held in police custody without charges. He further expressed concern over a reported directive to arrest additional Accord leaders and transfer them to Abuja ahead of the election.
He called on security agencies to respect the rule of law and ensure that all political parties and their supporters can participate freely in the election.
The allegations against Senator Fadahunsi have not been established as fact and are subject to investigation by the appropriate authorities.
