Osun State Governor Ademola Adeleke has fired back at the federal government and state governors backing his All Progressives Congress (APC) rival, Munirudeen Oyebamiji, declaring he is “not afraid” of their political firepower ahead of Saturday’s governorship election.
Speaking at an Arise News town hall in Osogbo on Tuesday, the Accord Party candidate dismissed the heavyweights campaigning against him, likening himself to a bulldozer that cannot be stopped.
“I am a bulldozer. I am not afraid of federal might and governors backing the APC candidate. If they like, they should bring all the governors,” Adeleke said in a bold retort.
The governor insisted that the presence of powerful allies on the campaign trail would not sway voters, adding that many of those governors are actually his personal friends.
“Those governors are my friends. I am a civilised administrator. They won’t vote; they can only come and dance, and after the election, we will meet,” he added.
Adeleke also brushed aside claims that his administration has militarised Osun State, stressing that he lacks the constitutional authority to deploy the armed forces.
“I did not militarise Osun. I have no such capacity. I am not the commander-in-chief of the Armed Forces,” he clarified.
The town hall debate also featured APC’s Oyebamiji and ADC’s Najeem Salaam, as the three leading candidates laid out their visions for the state ahead of the high-stakes August 15 poll.
